We are pleased to announce establishment of a new journal, Review of Development Economics (RDE), to be published by Blackwell Publishers in spring 1997. Blackwell is known for publishing premier journals such as Economic Journal, Economica, Review of Economic Studies, Econometrica, and Review of International Economics.
DE aims to become a leading journal publishing high quality
research in development economics. RDE seeks rigorous
analytical
papers, theoretical as well as empirical, which deal with
contemporary development problems faced by national, regional,
and
global economies.
s
we are poised to enter a new century - even a new
millennium -
development economists face many exciting research challenges.
The
human race is at a crossroads; while many developing countries
in
Asia and Latin America are experiencing phenomenal growth, and
budding market economies are sprouting in Africa and
elsewhere,
other nations have suffered from the ravages of war or
disintegration due to institutional failures. However,
despite the
devastations of two world wars, world per-capita real income
has
more than quadrupled during this century. Moreover, waves of
market-oriented reforms are sweeping Central and Eastern
Europe,
China, and the former Soviet Union.
The editors of RDE recognize the need for timely communication of our research findings to scholars, practitioners, and policy makers. RDE is a refereed journal, devoted to the publication of high quality manuscripts on a wide range of topics in development economics, including growth theory, natural resources, technological change, productivity, country studies, agricultural development, migration, income distribution, commercial policy, population, and the environment, as well as the emerging problems of transition economies.
